2011 IBJJF NO-GI WORLD GRAPPLING CHAMPIONSHIP

About 12.5 hours of world-class no-gi jiu jitsu took place this past Saturday. Female brown and black belts competed in the same division. In the featherweight division (124.5 lbs.), Michelle Nicolinni defeated Nyjah Easton by armbar. Beatriz Mesquitta outpointed Tracey Goodell in the lightweight division (135.5). In the last few seconds of a middleweight (147 lb.) match which Emily Kwok was dominating, Rachel Demara won by kneebar. And in the heavyweight division, Emily Wetzel defeated Katrina Weilbacher by rear naked choke. Nicolinni defeated Mesquitta by toe hold in the openweight division.

Various women’s MMA fighters stepped up to the plate. Here’s a few names we recognized: Angelica Chavez, representing Gracie Barra, came in at 2nd place as a blue belt in the light feather division (113.5), Randi Miller from Zingano BJJ (pictured above) came in first in both the heavyweight division (158+) and the open weight division as a blue belt. Last but not least, Jessica Pene (Check Mat BJJ) came in 2nd place as a purple belt in the featherweight (124.5) division.
