(BEIJING, August 17) – United States wrestler Randi Miller beat Martine Dugrenier of Canada to clinch bronze in the Women’s Freestyle Wrestling 63 kilogram weight class on Sunday, August 17.
Miller stayed undefeated in this tournament until losing to Athens champion Icho Kaori of Japan in the quarterfinals, but quickly bounced back to defeat Olesya Zamula of Azerbaijan and Canadian wrestler Dugrenier in the repechage round to win a bronze.
Miller earned her Olympic berth by defeating 2004 silver medalist Sara McMann during the 2008 US Olympic trials in Las Vegas.

Randi Miller always saw herself as a basketball player. Fortunately for her, high school coaches couldn’t see past her 5-foot, 2-inch height.
After getting cut over and over again during her high school career, Miller finally got the hint and dedicated herself to wrestling.
She finished second in the state in her senior year of 2000-01, and now, seven years later, Miller is an Olympian. She will compete in women’s freestyle wrestling in Beijing on Aug. 16-17.
Miller’s makeover leads to wrestling facelift

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Randi Miller changed colleges, her coach, her eating habits, her mentality. Sometimes with frequency.
Change the songs on her iPod? Well, she didn’t go quite that far.
All these alterations resulted in a much different athlete and, partly because of it, a shake up of the U.S. Olympic women’s wrestling team only four years after it appeared America might have a medal-contending squad that stayed together for multiple games.
Miller pulled off one of the numerous surprises – at least to those outside the sport – during the U.S. Olympic trials in Las Vegas by defeating 2004 silver medalist Sara McMann at 138 pounds, becoming one of four new team members in Beijing. The others are Clarissa Chun (105 1/2 pounds), Marcie Van Dusen (121) and Ali Bernard (158 1/2).
